Vision
As a black woman with over five years of experience as a supervising journeyman at Cartwright Construction, I am acutely aware of the unique position I inhabit in the world of construction. I am part of a minority in a traditionally male-dominated industry, but it is my firm belief that this singular perspective will serve as a strength rather than a hindrance. My ambitions to become a General Contractor have been driven by the diverse projects I have had the privilege to supervise and by my extensive skillset that encompasses design, project management, ADP, CRM, sales, social media engagement, and blueprint interpretation.
At Cartwright Construction, my role encompassed a wide array of responsibilities, laying the foundation for my next venture. I established and maintained all systems and procedures, ensuring each project was securely managed from start to finish. My hands-on involvement in designing, refining, and overseeing construction allowed me to gain invaluable experience and a deep understanding of the industry.
With the expertise gained, I took a significant step forward in my career. After successfully passing my general contractor's test in the state of California, I leveraged my hands-on experience and knowledge to create Johnson Built. This new venture is a culmination of my years of dedication and expertise in the field, positioned to deliver excellence and innovation in construction. At Johnson Built, the focus remains on cultivating strong client relationships and ensuring each project not only meets but exceeds expectations.
My work in the field has been defined by a rich and varied array of projects. From the construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to a 16-unit senior complex, and countless kitchen and bathroom remodels, I've garnered a wealth of practical knowledge. These experiences have not only refined my skills, but also instilled in me an acute appreciation for the transformative power of well-executed construction and design. A well-crafted space can elevate the quality of life for its inhabitants and contribute positively to the community.
With a solid foundation in project management and a keen understanding of ADP and CRM systems, I have mastered the delicate art of ensuring projects stay on time and within budget. These technical proficiencies, coupled with my aptitude for sales and social media engagement, allow me to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders. This comprehensive skill set positions me uniquely within the industry, enabling a holistic approach to projects from the inception of an idea to its tangible realization.
Additionally, my background in design has given me a creative lens through which I see potential projects. It allows me to envision possibilities and solutions that others might overlook. This creativity, combined with my ability to read and interpret blueprints, enables me to bring a unique depth of understanding to my work.
As a black woman striving to become a General Contractor, I understand the responsibility that comes with this aspiration. It's about more than overseeing projects; it's about opening doors for those who follow. My success will challenge stereotypes and reshape the narrative within the industry, demonstrating that the world of construction is not limited to one gender or race. It's about showcasing that talent, experience, and drive are what truly matter.
I firmly believe that my diverse experiences, skills, and perspective make me a valuable asset in this industry. As a General Contractor, I will bring my unique viewpoint to every project, nurturing a spirit of inclusivity and innovation while creating structures that uplift and serve the communities they inhabit. I want to create spaces that inspire, function effectively, and most importantly, stand as testament to the power of diversity within our field.
